Domestic violence is more broadly understood today than what it has been historically. It is acknowledged to be at times life threatening, socially debilitating, and incredibly harmful. Many people have dealt with domestic violence of varying degrees, sometimes not even consciously knowing it by that name.
Dealing with domestic violence is not just a legal problem - it is often a relationship problem as well. Services are becoming more available now that the prevalence is recognised, but, the law can become involved when Police make decisions to seek a Protection Order, or, decide to charge one or more people with breaches of protection orders.
Taking the step to seek protection can be a critical step in your relationship but also have significant legal consequences. I can assist you to either prepare your own application, or address the surrounding issues of proceedings.
If you receive an application for a protection order, it can be critical to get advice at the earliest opportunity to ensure that a bad situation does not become worse. Not only this, but, if there are surrounding issues, for example of family law (especially children) and divorce , a comprehensive approach to your circumstances will help you develop a strategy quickly to deal with the real issues.
I act in matters for protection order applications in various courts, including preparing and appearing at trial (or briefing counsel for more complex matters). I am familiar with and am prepared to travel to courts throughout South East Queensland and the Darling and Western Downs regions to respond to applications including: Brisbane, Ipswich, Warwick, Oakey, Dalby, Chinchilla, and Roma.
